Homemade Fabric Softener

Here’s the biggest secret: you do not have to buy expensive conditioner for this DIY fabric softener. You can buy the super inexpensive kind that is about $2 for a large bottle. I like to make smaller batches so that I can switch up the fragrance depending on my mood or the season:)

You Will Need

  • 3 cups of hot water

  • 1.5 cups of white vinegar

  • 1 cup of conditioner in whatever fragrance you like

(very inexpensive bottles of conditioners work great!)

  • Container for storage

  • Whisk

Directions

  1. Put 3 cups of hot water into a container

  2. Add 1 cup of conditioner

  3. Using a whisk, stir the water and conditioner until combined

  4. Add in 1 cup of white vinegar

  5. Add about 2 tablespoons to an average size load of laundry (more or less depending on the size of the load). Or, add it to a Downey ball FOUND HERE

*Note: this can be used in an HE washer! Simply add this homemade fabric softener to your washing machine like you normally would. Some machines have a drawer or compartment for fabric softener to be used.

This homemade fabric softener will:

  • Help remove buildup

  • Remove sour/dirty smells

  • Loosen some stains

  • Brighten colors

  • Lint repellant

  • Reduce static cling
